Bike Friendly Deep Ellum’s el Tour de Taco

el Tour de Taco, Facebook

Who cares if your knuckles might crack from the cold? There is no other way to take a taco tour than via a leisurely bike ride. And taco-loving cyclists will undertake such an endeavor, Sunday, Jan. 15, during el Tour de Taco.

Organized by Bike Friendly Deep Ellum’s Paul Adams, the group ride will kick off from St. Pete’s Dancing Marlin Restaurant and Bar at 2 p.m. and end between 3:30 and 4 p.m. The itinerary, though, is freewheeling. Adams told me everything depends on the turnout.

“The original plan was to end at this place that Friday through Sunday does $1 tacos and free draft beer, El Paisano” he said. “If it’s only 10–15 riders, we’ll probably go somewhere where the menu’s in Spanish. But if 40 people show up, I’ll choose somewhere a little more on the beaten path.”

Either way, el Tour de Taco will involve an approximately 20-mile ride set at an easy pace for riders of all experience levels. It will also be open to all, from the fixed-gear fanatic to the family that stays together by riding together.

Oh, it’s Adams who cares about your knuckles. If it rains or the temperature dips below 40 degrees Fahrenheit, the ride will be 86ed. There’s always the next el Tour de Taco. He hopes to make it a monthly happening.
