A new torta has been added to Taco Ocho’s menu. And it’s inspired by the tripleta, a sandwich from the land of my birth, Puerto Rico!
Opened since May, the Richardson specialty taquería and tortería has brought Mexican and Latin American-inspired cuisine to a part of DFW noted more for its Asian nibbles than much else. However, it hasn’t been easy. “People are reluctant to try new things,” said Taco Ocho owner Mani Bhushan. The Miramar torta, for example, wasn’t selling. So, we began looking at alternatives.”
Out went the grilled fish, lettuce, tomato, avocado sandwich slathered with chimichurri and jalapeno aioli. In came the Tripleta (pictured). Taco Ocho’s rendition includes 9 oz of meat (beef, pulled pork and pulled chicken topped with three avocado slices and jalepeno aioli between toasted bolillo. The traditional ham, lettuce and tomato have been done away with.
The Tripleta is normally priced at $7.95. However, for Taco Ocho’s Twitter Tuesday special, the new sandwich will be available for $4.95 to customers who say “I want the Twitter Special” from 3-9 p.m. today.
